Why are we renovating our sanctuary now?
- The combination of a complete collapse of the old HVAC system and the discovery of the age related deterioration of the roof resulted in a conclusion that replacement was necessary. Repair was concluded to be a futile exercise. All of the property chairs, past and present agreed and consultants and architects concur.
- The evaluation led to the decision to upgrade the extensive window inventory to dual-pane glass in order to reduce noise, retain heat and A/C and increase safety.
- The fact that these items needed attention led to investigating ways to significantly improve air flow and lighting within the building. Another opportunity was to eliminate the middle column between the doors entering the sanctuary from the narthex, making for much better traffic flow and sight lines.
- The chancel area platform will be eliminated and the chancel furniture will be redesigned to fit the space and be mobile. This will allow much more flexibility in seating options and will make us ADA compliant.
- Finally, sanctuary will be enveloped by an unseen plastic shield that goes down several feet in the ground at foundation level and in the roof construction. The building should be much more comfortable and energy efficient.
